Most countertop staining and bacterial contamination occurs because of tiny scratches or microscopic pores in a countertop surface. Stains and bacteria seep down into these fissures and are very hard to remove.
Scratching is a problem with laminates and solid surface counters while pores are a huge issue for granite and other stone products.
Laminate and solid surface products are very susceptible to scratching. Granite and marble, while more resistant to scratching, are filled with millions of open pores that require annual sealing and treatment to prevent contamination
Silestone's Quartz is the fourth hardest mineral on earth and is extremely hard to scratch. Because it is naturally non-porous, Silestone does not require sealing to prevent staining and bacterial contamination.

Quartz is a naturally occurring mineral that comes in sizes ranging from small gravel to huge gemstones. It is used in many different applications throughout the world.
Granite and other stone countertops strength and durability are actually derived from their quartz content. Quartz content in granite can range from 25 to 45 percent. Granite, in fact, is not a single product. It is actually thousands of different stone products with varying levels of quartz and other minerals. This is why some types of granite are very fragile and easily broken while others are more durable.

CARING FOR SILESTONE
No other surface is easier to care for and maintain than Silestone.
For routine cleaning simply use warm soapy water. For difficult spills, wipe with warm soapy water, or if needed use a common household cleaner such as Windex, Formula 409, or Fantastik. For grimy stains that harden as they dry, lightly scrape surface clean with a window scraper and clean with warm soapy water. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners on Silestone. With simple care and cleaning, Silestone will always look great for years to come!
